"I'm going blind but the hospital will not help me access my records"

About: Rotherham Hospital

(as a service user),

The situation I find myself in is that I have a disability, I am registered blind with a rare eye condition which means I am losing my eyesight. I am down to the last few percent of my vision.

I have always treated people with the utmost respect and dignity in my life, and expect people to do show me the courtesy and and show me the same back. my problems with the management at the Rotherham hospital started when I asked for a reasonable adjustment to be made so I could have my own medical records read out to me as I am blind. Which I was refused, maybe they didn't believe I had a disability?

Last year a new law came into effect called Accessible Information Standard, which help people with disabilities and sight loss access their record in a way which is easier for them. I have pointed this out to the Management of the hospital, but I am afraid it has fallen on deaf ears. I have been told the hospital is breaking the law by denying my request.

I find that as I am disabled and going blind the hospital just refuses to listen to me.
