My mother arrived at the A & E at Russells Hall in the early evening of 4th January 2017. I followed by car and entered the A & E reception. I was told that until Mom was in a cubicle i should remain in reception - as expected, no problem with that. I remained there for about 3 hours and what I witnessed made me realise that we as users of the A & E should give very careful consideration to our condition, before shooting off to A & E with every ailment, and in particular avoid dragging along the whole family. Once inside the A & E department I saw a heart - warming display of excellent teamwork, and a very smooth running department. Everyone of the team working diligently and calmly, despite being under enormous pressure from the growing influx of patients. When Mom was later moved from A&E, she was placed in a ward which had temporarily been set up in part of the Day Surgery department. This was no makeshift ward, it was properly equipped, and serviced by the most wonderful team of staff who epitomised the ethics of the N.H.S. , offering quality care, dignity, and compassion to the mainly elderly patients. I sat with my Mother for several hours, and left later reflecting on my pride in the N.H.S in general, and Russells hospital in particular.
