My 81 year old mother was rushed into A&E at 8pm on New years eve. She had suffered a heart attack and stroke. The ambulance staff were amazing and I have nothing for praise for them. The A&E staff were equally proficient, despite being horrendously busy. Many patients on trolleys were waiting for cubicles. The situation was not helped by the fact that there were a lot of people coming in from 2am with alcohol related problems. Unfortunately my Mum was in A&E for around 9 hours. Much of that time was waiting for results from blood tests, xrays and scans, and later awaiting almost non-existant beds on MAU. It was a long night and we were both exhausted but my Mum was just relieved she was there and felt safe! She is still in hospital but her good care is being continued on the wards.
