What I liked
I had an operation in May. I liked... the caring and kind consultants, nursing and support staff on ward F2, with particular thanks to the consultant whose expertise and experience were second to none . And a special mention for nurses/sisters who were professional, organised and attentive to the nth degree and always went well beyond the call of duty to further their patients' comfort and wellbeing. This ward is well run and the strong relationships between the carers helps to make the patients feel confident and safe. There is an overall feeling of cooperation and attention to detail whether you are talking to the staff who bring the meals and drinks or the highest level surgeon. I can't say I enjoyed my stay (it is hospital after all not the Italian Lakes) but being a person who is more than a little scared of being in hospital the experience was made easier because of the professionalism and caring attitude of all the people there. Many thanks for your care.
What could be improved
Better positioning of bedside tables which being behind the bed cannot be reached by the patient once she is in bed which kind of defeats the object of having a bedside table and forces the patient to use the overbed table to keep all their bits and bobs on. Because this overbed table is also used for meals and drinks it doesn't seem very good practice to keep toilet bags/books/glasses and other sundries on these tables as they are not wiped down prior to meals and I feel this situation could contribute to the spread of infection.
Anything else?
If anyone is thinking of choosing to go into Hallamshire Hospital I would urge them not to worry...you will be in safe caring hands.
