"Suspected Stroke/TIA at James Paget Hospital"

(as a relative),

Patient on holiday in caravan, collapsed with facial droop on one side, unable to move right side, unable to respond or speak. Emergency response ambulance arrived quickly and transferred to majors at James Paget. CT scan didn't show a stroke (we were told) during the next few hours functionality returned and staff showed little interest and told it was some sort of faint! ! Discharged.

We returned home (70 miles away) and saw our GP next morning. He requested notes from hospital and these showed that a neurologist had categorically said it wasn't a stroke or TIA.

3 months later patient (my husband) collapsed with exactly the same symptoms. Patient was emergency transferred to resuscitation at Colchester General. Seen by consultant and CT scan and told it was a massive stroke with large blood clot in carotid artery. Informed them about episode 3 months earlier and was told that a TIA wouldn't have shown up on the scan 3 months earlier.

Clearly was a TIA and after 4and a half months in Hospital Stroke Unit and 6 and a half months in a nursing home. (Severely disabled physically, globally aphasic, unable to peg or rig feed due to previous abdominal surgery) sadly passed away.

My advice is don't expect to be treated properly at James Paget Hospital.
