"Staff are friendly. Lots of sitting ..."

About: Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre

(as the patient),

What I liked

Staff are friendly. Lots of sitting spaces and clean environment. Easy access (automatic doors) which is a plus for those with mobility issues. Clean and spacious sitting area.

What could be improved

Came here on referral from GP for shoulder problems Consultant at the centre recommended me for physical therapy, which would be my second physio course since I had done it prior to referral at a different establishment and they couldn't solve my problem either. So it was no surprise that it didn't work after having physiotherapy at the centre for 3 months (once a week visit). Physiotherapist said that nothing else can be done, but will write to the consultant so that some other options can be explored. It has been 6 months and I heard nothing. Looks like I'll be on painkillers for life. So, what could be improve is that patient follow up would be good here even though the initial assessment was that I would be better in 3 months, which it hasn't. Maybe it would be different for some other people, but I have not benefitted from this centre and it has been a waste of my time and effort getting there.

Anything else?

Took me 3 months before I got an appointment, so waiting times could be improved, though I do understand that there are a lot of patients to be seen.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your experience as an out-patient at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre. We are sorry to learn that you have not heard from us regarding an appointment and we would urge you to call the Shoulder and Elbow team on 01865 738052 who will be able to help.

Generally, for patients who have not improved with physiotherapy, a referral back to the Consultant would be organised particularly if the Consultant had other management options, such as surgery or a referral to another doctor. This procedure is followed quite regularly (i.e. patients are discharged to physiotherapy with referral back if no improvement /deterioration). Unfortunately, because of the limitations of this medium we cannot ascertain what has happened in your case and apologise that this process appears to have gone awry. This has been brought to the attention of the Shoulder and Elbow team.

If you would like to discuss this, or any other issue regarding our services please do not hesitate to contact the PALS office on 01865 738126 or email pals@noc.nhs.uk who will be happy to help.
