"I'm not sure what there was ..."

About: Dorset County Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I'm not sure what there was too like to be honest. When you do eventually get treated it's good (providing the treatement is right first time, which it wasn't in this case, resulting in a return trip, as advised by the NHS emergency helpline).

What could be improved

Why such a wait time for A&E? On Saturday it was 3 to 4 hours and it wasn't really that busy (more waiting relatives/friends than people wanting to be treated). No initial assesment made to determine how serious your problem might be. No info given on why such a long wait, not that many staff on duty seemingly. If you're in pain you need attention quickly. Reception staff (3 of...) appear disinterested. Not a great impression of the hospital to be honest.

Anything else?

The waiting area is a bit grim. It does have vending machines & up to date reading. But not that clean, badly set out and cramped. If you're going to make people wait that long the least you can do is to make them feel comfortable.

I suspect that the problems lie in th management not with the nursing staff. Perhaps if there was less spent on managing & on more on nursing then the waiting time could be reduced. Just because there is a target to see patients in shouldn't mean that's what you aspire to, you should want to improve on it and your service.
