"Its great that no smoking is allowed ..."

About: Queen Elizabeth I I Hospital (Welwyn Garden City)

(as a relative),

What I liked

Its great that no smoking is allowed in or around the hospital; but patients are still subjected to the stench of stale cigarette smoke on the clothing of smokers. I would like to see the day come when only non smokers are hired in hospitals. More and more studies have shown that second hand smoke - even on the clothing of smokers - poses risks, especially to babies, small children and patients with lung problems - not to mention the unpleasantness of the smell. When allowances are made for staff to go out for smoke breaks, the least they could do would be to clean up the butts instead of throwing them on the ground. There are two locations in particular that need attention (and I have mentioned it to the Security Guard) one at the edge of the north staff parking lot and one along the sidewalk north of long-term care.

Hospitals - of all places - should be non smoking period!

What could be improved

Smokers show some consideration for the rest of us

Anything else?

No smoking on hospital premises at all

We couldn't agree more. And while smoking is banned on all parts of NHS premises - inside and out - enforcing those rules can be very hard indeed. But we keep trying - and even have signs that announce the fact that smoking is banned.
