"Postnatal unit needs work"

About: Royal Preston Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

Service I received during labour was fantastic. Afterwards however... My child was born in the morning, I had to ask for a shower the day after, 37 and a bit hours living in my own dirt

The food choices for were diabolical for someone with allergies

Not one person checked on me overnight during my first night as a first time mum. I felt like the staff were so short staffed they were almost rude through needing to be elsewhere.

I only realized a day after I entered the ward I had no pillow. Six ( roughly) different midwifes tried to help me with breastfeeding.. all giving me conflicting advice, that may be why I found it so hard to learn.

I believe my rough start with my daughter could have been avoided had a received better attention in the ward

I would not recommend this maternity postnatal. This is no reflection on the adjoining delivery unit and birthing suit

It is lovely to hear from a first time mum having a fantastic birthing experience, but we are disappointed and concerned to hear that your time spent on the maternity ward impacted on what could have been a very positive admission.

We would very much hope that you would take up our invitation to discuss this further with the Patient Advice and Liaison Team (PALS) on 01772 522972 who will be able to liaise with both the Catering and the Maternity ward management teams on your behalf.
