"Beautiful clean building. Lovely, ..."

About: University College Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked Beautiful clean building. Lovely, courteous and friendly staff. That includes everyone I came across from the receptionists to the consultants. Not kept waiting excessively long times for bloods or scans. What could be improved? I have full confidence in the ability medical staff. They are one of the best hospitals in the country with some of the most specialist doctors. But there are problems with continuity of care. In the diabetes / endocrinology department, I've never seen the same doctor twice. While they are all very good, all I really want is continuity and to see the same person. It's frustrating to have to explain everything again, every time you go because yet another doctor doesn't know your file or anyhting about you. They all seem to have very different ideas about what they'll do for you. It's quite frustrating. They basically dump all of the notes on a trolley in the open clinic next to where the patients are seated, which is alarming in itself, and it's a free for all for the doctors to take what notes they want. It surely isn't that hard to have continuity? Patients should be able to at least ask if they can see the same person. It's a reasonable request. I wouldn't mind if I had to wait a long time to be seen by a particular doctor just as long as I had continuity of care. Anything else? Other than the continuity, it's a wonderful hospital. But then what good are the nice facilities if you always feel like it's the first time you've been there seeing yet another different doctor.
