"Some of the nurses"

About: University College Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

Some of the nurses

What could be improved

My daughter who was 20 years wanted to have her eggs stored due to cancer but this was denied as they said they don't do it at this hospital... One rule for the rich and one rule for her.

My daughter missed coming in for Chemo a few times due to bed shortages and the fire. Too late now but where are the family/TV rooms

Anything else?

My daughter had her 21st birthday in this hospital and they could not even find a pillow that night. I had to roll up a blanket for her.

The floor above leaked water and everyone had to move to the other side of the building and the TV- internet did not work and told by nurse "there is nothing I can do"? and she walked away, It is important for her to stay in touch with college friends! Just the little things in life make a big difference..

UCLH offer a specialist service for Young Adults with cancer which is provided by a comprehensive team of experienced staff specifically to help this group with their particular needs:

CLIC Sargent social work team who support and advise patients from both financial and psychological aspect

- A dedicated clinical nurse specialist

- A Network support meeting for patients and family

- Art therapist for inpatients

We are continually developing the Young Adult services at UCLH as we strive for excellence.

We apologise for any lack of bedding which has been experienced. Housekeepers now ensure that there are always adequate supplies on all the inpatient cancer wards.

There has been one water leak through to the cancer inpatient wards since new building opened in 2005. This was caused out of hours by accidental damage to a mains connected water fountain on the floor above leading to a high pressure/high volume water leak. The estates department responded within 30 minutes and capped the pipe. Some hours later /following day the leak seeped though ceiling tiles on the floor below, because of this patients were relocated whilst remedial repairs were undertaken.
