"I likes the new Maternity unit, ..."

About: Arrowe Park Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

I likes the new Maternity unit, staff where wonderful and the whole place was spotless. my daughter had her first child there (my first grandchild) on 16th may 2010 by ceaser section. Although she was discharged after only 4 days she apperad fine,

Unfortunatyly 2 weeks later we had to take her to out of hours with pain and breathing probs where upon she was sent home with a bottle og Gavason and anti acid tablet..i was shocked and concerned about clots (DVT)

She had a very disturbed night and at 8, am next morning i had to call an ambulance. She was admitted to Surgical assesment unit and we waited 13 hours for a doctor to check although she had been given some mild pain relief. She was in agony. the doctor said her Gaulbladder was inflamed and she needed a scan..but because it was a bank holiday Sunday this may not be done till the following Tue or wed as they did not want to call the staff in !!!! she was put on morphine and antibiiotics. The scan was done 3 days later on the wed, which confirmed she had stones..she had to then wait for the specialist to asses her befor decissions could be made ..all this time my daughter is freeting for her new baby . The specialist arrived thursday and arranged a ct sccan as he was concerned about another condition too Appendix as she had pain in this area too. This scan was done on Friday 4thjune she was also moved to ward 18. Put in a bay with confused aged people and some crying out in pain. I was mortified to find the sink next to my daughters bed to be Filthy, with empty water jugs thrown and left in it and the most disgusting slime and grim around the taps..A video of which i am going to take on my next visit.

What could be improved

Spot check for cleaning standards daily in every bay and ward. bay 3 ward 18 s sink was disgusting and my poor daughter a new mum of 2 weeks had to be bedded right next to it...I am doing a vidoe of it and it will be publicaly shown!!!!

Anything else?

sympathy and understanding form some of your staff on ward 18 was very lacking... a young first time mum in paid and onlly 2 weeks after a cesarian section was admitted. Not being 100% after the birth and admitted by ambulance 2 weeks later , parted from her new baby ,,surley in these circumstances a side room for this young mum would have been apropiate for her to spend what little time she could on visits with her new born baby..she was put on ward 18 with sick elderly people and this was adding to her distress and emotional well being ...
