"Lack of care"

About: Dorset County Hospital / Neurology Joseph Wend & Trimar Hospice Trust

(as a carer),

Can I start with saying I am a nurse and worked in hospice in Scotland.

Husband ill with gbm4. Mobility bad in Dorset county hospital a few times. I felt that the care he received was shocking, apart from fortuneswell ward.

I have been banging my head off brick wall for months trying to get help. Joseph weld visited -we will transfer him there, physio and rehab and crisis package as I wanted him home.

Yes he got phyysio twice a week, that is it! He could have got that at home. He was incontinent at hospice, This is due, as I understand because call bell was not answered. Then gave him a bottle he cannot use in bed, as I told them on numerous occasions.

So got him home. not eligible for care as not ill enough. He died 3 weeks later.

I feel that the hospice were not hands on enough.  I will get distress massage..somebody will come and sit with him. It didn't happen.

I dont want my hospital experience and hospice experience to tar my memories of my lovely husband. Just wish he had never been there.. wasted 10 days..he could have been at home. Just have the joy he was at home with his family..

Point of this is..don't want someone to go through this!

Love to all sufferring at this time xx

Dear Fifipip

Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of your husband. I know that this must be an incredibly difficult time for you and I am so sorry if the experiences you have had at Dorset County Hospital have added to your grief.

If you would like to talk more about your experience please do contact me at the hospital on 01305 254786, although I appreciate that this may be difficult for you. You can also email me at becky.protopsaltis@dchft.nhs.uk if that would be easier. Learning more about the issues you and your husband faced is important to us. I understand that this cannot change what has happened; however hearing more about your experience would help us to shape our services to ensure that we learn from what you tell us.
