"not a spare bed, wheelchair or trolley spare......"

About: Princess Alexandra Hospital / Accident and emergency

My poor 79 year old Dad sat in A&E for 10 hours...no bed, trolley or wheelchair was available. He was so weak he could barely walk. However I cannot fault the staff, they were helpful and polite at all times. The pressure these people are under is immense. You have to witness it with your own eyes to believe how stretched this service is.

Dear Anonymous,

I am so sorry to read your story about your dad, it is heart breaking; this is not the service we aspire to provide. We want to provide a service that triages, responds and treats our families with appropriate pace and rapidity and I am sorry we have let you down. I understand you feel that staff were helpful and polite, but we have clearly not met your needs and so I would be keen to understand exactly where the delays occurred. So I would ask that if you feel able to do so, that you please contact us.

You can do that in several ways, the first is to call us on 01279 82 70 84 and talk to someone in the Patient Experience Team to discuss the issues or to send an email with your contact details to pals@pah.nhs.uk so we can get you in touch with our Emergency Department clinicians and professionals who are desperately keen to improve quality. I hope to hear from you soon.
