I'd been suffering with nosebleeds for around a month and my blood was being monitored by my GP as I was I was becoming very anaemic. I had a nasty bleed which caused me to faint, which had never happened before. It was a Friday evening so my GP was not open, I thought it best to get checked over by a doctor. The out of hours GP took some obs, stated I looked pale and sent me to a&e for further investigation. The bleed happened at 5pm, got to the GP at 6pm and booked in at a&e around 7pm, was triaged around half 8 and explained my HB was very low and I was concerned it had dropped further. This must of been dismissed as I was not seen by a doctor until 11pm, he was tempted to discharge me as I had a ENT appointment the next week. He took bloods and put me on a chair in the hallway. 1am he comes and talks to me again, he tells me he has spoken to an oncall ENT and once he comes and sees me I could go home. 2am an oncall ENT finally gets back to the doctor and says I need to be admitted as my HB is 60 (6) and I will need a blood transfusion. I'm still on a chair in the hallway btw. It's around now that I get through to cubicles, I hear staff talking about how bad it was that I was left on a chair with such a low blood level and how they felt it was bad I had to wait so long and one of them did mention "well we do triage them". It wasn't until 5am I got into a ward, so I must of breached the 4 hour target by double. Does the 4 hour target not count over night?
The rest of my stay in New Cross was mostly positive, it did take a few days to actually receive the units of blood, I felt a waste of a bed, if I had received blood the day after my admission I wouldn't of had to spend 5 days on 2 different wards.
