"Great care but they cannot get the basics right"

About: St James's University Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

I am so pleased with the excellent care that I received in St James Hospital. I was receiving treatment for Biliary Dilation. The medical staff and nursing staff were excellent they were so kind and caring, nothing was too much trouble. They kept me informed of every aspect of my care and I felt I could trust them to look after me. It was exceptionally clean and even in the oldest part of the hospital the staff worked so hard to keep it all clean. The only complaint I had is the food, it was appalling. No one ate it and it all got thrown away. There was such a waste. I work in the NHS and I know that they are on a budget but food was cooked and reheated and tasted so bad. Even nurses allowed us to have food brought into us and be kept in the fridge, they realized it was so bad. Everyone’s relatives continually brought food in for them. They spend money on new state of the art units, but they cannot get the basics right.

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience at St James's Hospital.

I was pleased to hear that the care and treatment you received was of a high standard. But disappointed to learn that the food was less than satisfactory.

I shall pass your comments onto the Patient Relations Manager at the hospital who will share this with the relevant staff.
