"Nothing"

About: Stepping Hill Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

Nothing

What could be improved

Everything.

Communication between the Doctors and Nurses and in particular between the staff and the patient/family.On January 2nd my mother was admitted with an infection which was treated with very strong antibiotics. The source of the infection, ulcers on her legs, cellulitis, was NOT addressed. The dressings were left on with strike through, these dressings were dirty. I had to tell the staff that the dressings had to be changed every day not just when they felt like it. My mother was assumed to have been wheelchair bound and was left to sit all day in a chair. This did not improve the condition of her legs. Up till this time mother was mobile. The family were never asked, and because of the high dose of antibiotic she was suffering confusion. She was admitted to A14 with anemia, had an op for hernia which went well and was discharged after 4 weeks with confusion caused by a water infection which wasn't picked up by the doctors. She saw the GP after a week and was re-admitted to B6 where we had problems again regarding dressings on her legs. After having a vascular assessment she was sent home after being taken off medication for water retention and her heart tablets. She is now in ward E2 after having breathing difficulties. I have discovered that the A & E registrar has had do not resuscitate written on her notes. There has been no consultation with her family over this, permission has not been given by the family. I want this statement removed but am not getting anywhere with the doctors or staff. I have made 3 complaints to the hospital itself and complaint number 4 is being made to PALS, Consultant and our MP.

Anything else?

This hospital should be closed if they can't staff it properly. I most certainly won't be taking mother here again because I don't trust their judgment.
