About: Sunderland Royal Hospital

On a Saturday early evening after Newcastle dental hospital and all local dentists had closed, I had an abcess in my gum which was causing swelling and a high level of pain. I tried ringing 111 three times only to be told I would receive a call back from a clinition for a dental referal which did not happen. I tried south tyneside A&E where I was told I could not be seen as it was dental related and was given a phone number which had only an automated message. A&E staff refused to ask a doctor to see me and said I had to ring 111.

My son rang round care centres and got through to a very helpful receptionist at Pallion who took the time to listen and acknowledge the pain I was in needed urgent treatment. They spoke to a nursing sister and said I should come straight down. Once there I was booked in and spoke to the nurse who said they understood the level of pain as my mouth was visibly swollen. The nurse took a few details and said they would get a doctor to see me. A few minutes later I was seen by a doctor who examined me and prescibed antibiotics and painkillers. The staff at Pallion urgent care were excellent and I shudder to think of the pain I would have experirnced if they had not have stepped in where other parts of the NHS has failed. The painkillers helped reduce the pain until the swelling reduced as the abcess was reduced by the antibiotics. 10/10 for Pallion urgent care in every aspect.
