"Visiting A and E with a very frightened ..."

About: Pontefract General Infirmary

(as a relative),

What I liked

Visiting A and E with a very frightened 70 year old father was greeted by a very efficient and friendly lady booking patients in. A very good first contact.

What could be improved

Communication between doctors and nurses. Fortunately my father hasnt an illness that has affected his decision making as a doctor gave pain killers then an hour later a nurse tried to give him more not realising he'd already had them! Quite a dangerous practise.

Anything else?

The junior doctor on duty was clearly harrassed, hot and had a terrible bedside manner talking to myself and my father as we were imbeciles. I appreciate A and E is a busy department and doctors are under pressure but a compassionate approach is what I'd expect from 'the caring ' profession. After being sent away my father was taken to York District hospital with a clot on his lung 2 days later.
