"Downgrading of GP Services"

About: West Kent PCT

(as the patient),

When I was 40, over 10 years ago, my GP invited me to a Well Man clinic where various tests were done including cholesterol, diabetes, blood pressure etc. Every couple of years this was repeated. Then it stopped.

Now I am in my 50s and arguably more in need of these services but they are no longer offered. Surely this is counter-productive as any conditions I may have will not be discovered until I need medical attention. I am not offered prostate cancer tests, cholesterol tests, blood sugar tests, ECG, EEG, blood pressure or any other preventative tests.

In addition, my GP service now needs me to make an appointment anything up to 2 weeks in advance to see a specific doctor and the only way I can get a meeting with any GP is to turn up after 11 am and wait as long as it takes to get seen, hardly the best way to use my time and exposing me to everyone else’s diseases for an extended period of time.

And can I go anywhere else? No because the next nearest practice is run by the same set of doctors.
