"Excellent care after my husband's fall."

About: Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

My husband fell in the kitchen a few weeks ago and smashed his nose. A neighbour took us into A&E at The Royal as he was heavily bleeding and I needed to help him with the blood. We got to A&E about 11am. I made sure the staff knew he has dementia.

We were sent to Major Injuries, within 10 minutes he was called to triage. Right away we saw a doctor. He didn’t need an xray, they fixed him with glue and steristrips. He was in and out within an hour. Everyone was really helpful and it was so speedy. Excellent.

The staff explained that the wound was a bit oozy and that the dressings might not stick and to contact our GP if it needed redressing. I called our GP to ask if they would redresss the wound, and then they told me they do not do that sort of thing. In the end I took him to the Walk In Centre who put a big plaster over his nose which fell off in the end too. He looked a mess for a while but is fine now. It would be good if it was more clear where to go for wound aftercare.

Thank you for your positive feedback. I will ensure that all staff are informed of the after care required for wounds once a patient is to be discharged.

We wish you well in the future.

Thank you for taking the time to contact us.
