"Staff Parking ARI"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary

(as a staff member),

As staff at the ARI, I was supposed to start my 9 hour shift at 0830, I got to the parking area for staff and the barrier.  Men put up a sign stating the car park was full. I asked where am I supposed to park and there response was rude and nasty, " its not my problem! " was there response! I then asked them to contact my department and inform them that I was going to be late as it requires me to relieve staff members on my start time again he responded that it wasn't his problem and that I should of came to work earlier.

I was at the staff parking by 8. 20am. I asked him again where can I park and yet again he laughed and said it wasn't his problem. At this point I go quite upset, firstly I am never late and the way I was spoken too.

I had to drive around for and because I was so upset I parked up on the pay and display area to which I had no money to pay but fear that I would be told off for being late as the bosses clearly state that because we know that there is limited space in parking would should make sure that we get to our work on time. Difficult if you coming from Kincardineshire.

You should start training your car parking staff to be more understanding and be helpful

Hello

I have passed your comments on to the appropriate department and I have asked them to respond. We would not expect NHSG staff to be rude to patients or to staff or to anyone else. I will invite the department to respond to your concern but perhaps you should think about raising this internally. I understand your frustrations and how difficult it is when you have to travel from a distance with no option of public transport. The rudeness of the attendant can only have added to your already exasperated state.

Kind regards

Thank you for your feedback. We acknowledge that car parking at the Foresterhill Health Campus - already a limited resource - is under additional pressure as a result of the construction of the new multi storey car park. We have tried to find alternative spaces where we can but it simply would not be possible to replace all the spaces we have temporarily lost to the construction site.

There were a number of communications to both staff and the general public advising them of the situation prior to the start of works. These also outlined the transport alternatives, such as car sharing or public transport. Obviously these will not be appropriate for everyone; we continue to encourage those who are able to get to the site by other means to do so, leaving spaces for those who have no option but to bring their vehicle.

In the long run this facility will greatly improve the ability of our patients and visitors to get on and off the site and aid the smoother running of our services.

We are sorry to hear you found staff rude and unhelpful. We have spoken to all our attendants and reminded them of their responsibilities and to ensure they are polite and courteous at all times.
