What I liked

Almost nothing. The ambulance crew was good and one of the A&E doctors was as well.

What could be improved

Almost the whole hospital needs demolishing and rebuilding with something modern and not something out of Victorian times. A&E seems good until you compare it wih somewhere like Wythenshawe but the AMU ward is simply disgusting, both in terms of the 20 people of mixed sex squashed together in dirty conditions.

The staff need retraining or at least reminding that the patients are their customers paying their wages and not just some inconvenience that will go away if you ignore them long enough. This especially applies to all the nurses in AMU who were thoroughly unpleasant and often unprofessional in almost every way.

Despite having had a heart attack and visiting Stepping Hill twice I never met a cardiologist face to face and instead was misdiagnosed by junior doctors on the AMU ward and despite me pointing out their error and getting the ward consultant to agree they were wrong I still got a misdiagnosis and so discharged myself. I had to go to Wythenshawe to get the correct diagnosis from the cardiac specialist stationed at all times in A&E there. A simply appalling state of affairs.

Anything else?

The hospital site is simply unfit for purpose. It doesn't have enough room to expand to provide healthcare at the expected level to all the inhabitants of Stockport. Quite why other hospitals were closed and everything centred on the Stepping Hill site is beyond belief.

I also cannot see how one can receive some post-operative treatments there when the distance from the nearest parking place to the relevant departments is further than one is supposed to walk in a day. Compare this with Wythenshawe where one can park outside the departments.

A plan needs to be put in place for a new greenfield site hospital of significantly higher quality than the existing hospital.
