We arrived at A&E late Saturday evening with my son suffering from a severe cough which was causing him a lot of distress. I write my story here to pass a message on to every member of staff who dealt with us that night that - Thank you -I think each and every one of you are brilliant!
After A&E doctors saw that all standard respiration treatments/medications were not having any significant effect, we were moved to resus. The resus team were brilliant, kind, efficient and right there - just what I needed. The registrar (who arrived swiftly) arranged for a team of 5 pediatrics's to come down to help us in resus. For the rest of the night the team stayed with me and my son. I am so sorry I don't remember all your names - you were led by consultant Uka and we had 2 doctors & 2 speciality nurses (one of which I truly felt was there with a priority to care of me (mum) and help me through the toughest of nights - thank you so much I needed you! ). I cannot credit all of you enough (each individually and then again as a team) on your professionalism, compassion and your clarity to make sure I understood the situation, the medications, the options and the gravity of the measures that needed to be taken. I learnt a lot that night and never for a second did I question my trust in you and the care you had to offer. These comments equally extend to the theatre and the embrace team. Thank you all you really did an outstanding job in every aspect.
If this note reaches the team personally (I really hope it does) I would like you all to know that his intubation tubes were removed after 36 hours and after 2 nights in PICU, one in HDU and one in a normal ward - Alder Hey discharged us and Finley and I are now home (Thursday) and doing just fine! ! He is still quite croaky but to be honest - if he could talk he could probably do school tomorrow! ! (I am not that mean! )
Anyway, just in case you didn't get the point - each and every staff member who helped me and my little boy that night were absolutely exceptional. I couldn't have wished for more continuously attentive care from so many talented individuals across so many levels of medical practice. Thank you all so much. We now have a very well boy. Thank you for your care.
"I think each and every one of you are brilliant!"
