"Mental health history v physical health"

About: Southend Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

I have a mental health history, now very outdated, but each time I attended this hospital, consultants could not see me 'below the neck'!I had numerous emergency admissions via 999 over the past six years, always giving a diagnosis of anxiety, heart problems, bone problems anything and everything except the real cause of my pain.

I had seen gastroenterologists ... pretty useless, had numerous MRI / CT scans and still being told by my GP that i was 'attention seeking' and nothing was wrong (as reported by the hospital.

After six years of suffering, I changed GP's and hospitals, on my first appointment at my chosen hospital, I got a diagnosis, a whopping big gall stone, signed my consent form for surgery and in just a few weeks I am now home, happy and healthy. This hospital simply cannot cope with anyone that has any kind of mental heath history, no matter how out dated that history may be.

I had an appointment in the orthopaedic clinic fro knee replacement, the first line of my report was about my past mental health history, not sure how that relates to knees, but they simply have no understanding.

Attended heart and chest clinic, mental health gets a mention, seen by gastroenterologists, mental health gets a mention, what is a matter with these people?

I have now transferred all my care to another fairly local hospital where I am treated as a person, my privacy and dignity kept intact and not a single mention of mental health ... and disabled parking is free, so very well worth the short journey. No matter how many times I have raised my issues with this hospital, there is always the book of excuses to hand, so complaining, no matter what the excuses they come up with, you never get a real answer.
