"I visited the EPAC a couple of ..."

About: St Michael's Hospital (Bristol)

(as the patient),

What I liked

I visited the EPAC a couple of times and the staff there were really kind and caring and the consultant was very knowledgeable and explained everything to me really well. I then had to go to ward 78 to have an ERPC operation which was a same day operation. Again, all staff there were really kind and showed genuine concern over the patient needs. I had a room to myself, so that my fiance and I could have private discussions and he could read a book or use the internet while he was waiting for me. The nurses were on hand if I needed anything and honestly, it felt almost like a private hospital. It was brilliant, and the doctors, nurses and consultants were all very kind and patient and looking after every need.

I could not recommend this hospital enough. Really brilliant and the operation went really well.

What could be improved

I did have to wait for a while before being collected from the operating ward, purely because my allocated nurse had to rush off to the BRI with an emergency with another patient. I did not mind this, although possibly it showed they were short staffed at the time? (The operating ward is a few metres away from the recovery ward).

Also they were in the process of treating an ant problem at the time I was there, but this did not bother me, as I know what a pest they can be!!

Anything else?

Top praise for all staff at the EPAC and ward 78. Really wonderful. Thoroughly happy and satisfied.

I would definitely want to come here again.

Thank you for your kind comments about ward 78. The staff will be delighted to hear such positive comments and the Matron will ensure they are made aware of them. The Matron would like you to be aware that the ant problem on the ward has been resolved. The ward does have peaks and troughs of activity which means at times the nurses do have higher levels of work. We can assure you though that staffing of the wards is monitored and benchmarked against other similar units as well as the skill mix of the ward being reviewed regularly . Thank you again for your feedback.
