"Rampton Hospital feedback"

About: Rampton Hospital

(as a volunteer/advocate),

This posting was gathered during a session on devising questions for a patient panel for interviewing for a staff nurse post at Rampton.

The patient was asked to say three good things about the service:

1. Treatment is really good; I have been able to help myself

2. When not cancelled, the O. T. (Occupational Therapy) is great, for example brick laying and plumbing

3. The Day Care Centre at Chiltern is really good

Things that could be better:

1. Changes of staff, I am on my third doctor, second psychologist and fourth social worker.

2. Communication between staff and patients could be better.

3. Reduce the cancellation of sessions.

Thanks for the feedback on areas to celebrate and highlighting the areas for improvement.

I shall comment on each area for improvement

1. I am sorry that changes in staff have had an impact on your experience. We have had staff changes due to retirement and promotions which means we are continually recruiting and exploring the skill mixes of staff required in each clinical area.

We are pleased to say that in each area we have now achieved this. Hopefully your experience will improve as a result of team stability.

2. We have the following forums to improve communication between staff and patients as well as with Trust senior staff.

a. The executive member’s forums for patients and staff respectively

b. Directorate Recovery and Involvement Group (DRIG chaired by the General Manager on a monthly basis.

c. Modern Matron 'drop in' session

d. Weekly ward community meetings

e. Daily deputy matrons 'walkabouts'.

3. Both the Directorate Meaningful Activities Programme and the Therapies and Education Department (TED) have worked collaboratively with patients to produce a stream lined activity programme to reduce the possibility of lots of activities being cancelled.

We shall be continuously reporting on the progress within our communication forums and we welcome both positive and negative feedback.

We shall then address areas where improvement has been identified as part of continuously working together to improve our services.

Many thanks
