"Patient left to sit in a chair for three hours"

About: East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - City Campus / Urology

(as a relative),

In April I had to take someone to A&E with emergency bladder pain. The care at the QMC was so good but this person had to be taken by ambulance to the City Hospital as it was deemed a urology problem and there were no beds available at the QMC.

Before he was transferred to the City he had been given a large dose of morphine for the pain.

We arrived at the City and he was taken to a surgical ward where there was only one other gentleman. It was then decided that he needed a medical ward so was taken the full length of the hospital to the acute emergency ward we were told on arrival there were no beds available. We asked if he could be taken back to the surgical ward where there was only one bed full but told no. We arrived at the acute emergency ward at 12 midnight and he had to sit in the day room until 3am when a bed was found for him. I think it was disgusting that a ward with only one patient in was left empty while someone in acute pain on morphine had to sit in a chair for three hours.
