I called into the maternity ward on Tuesday as my midwife at my practice was on leave. I was given the number by my practice to speak to a midwife as I had a symptom I was worried about (and still am as no one called me back as promised!). The person who answered the phone had no sympathy or empathy and despite me explaining I needed an urgent conversation with a midwife, they ignored me and just put me through to the appointments line and then it cut me off. Despite the NHS being a Public Health Service, I am still a customer and my health and my baby's health is at risk. I have now asked for my care to be transferred to Luton Hospital as I think this was highly rude and unprofessional and my health was not out first. If that person does not like to talk to people or work in maternity then they should find another job and the NHS need to find someone who wants the work. Absolutely appalling and upsetting. Especially for a first time mother. I am disgusted as the service in West herts that I am receiving. You hear of horror stories but this is just beyond belief. Where is the care and compassion?
