I attended A&E on Saturday lunchtime after a possible minor stroke. The staff there were efficient, informative, and showed real concern for getting me diagnosed and treated correctly. Despite being really busy I was seen relatively quickly and after several assessments I was moved to a bed on the Medical Assessment Unit where I stayed for two days undergoing various scans and tests. I finished up on the Acute Stroke Unit for my final diagnosis, prescription, and discharge. At every single step of my stay I found the staff without exception to be kind, friendly, professional and helpful, right from top to bottom, consultants and kitchen staff, nurses and cleaners, porters and doctors. All wonderful and couldn't do enough to help whenever needed. I can't praise MAU highly enough, no matter which team came on they were all top notch, night and day. They dealt with the wide variety of needs from patients with minimum fuss and maximum humour and kindness, I was hugely impressed. Attention to detail from clinical staff was excellent too at all three wards. All my questions were answered in a serious considered and thorough manner and the level of thoroughness with diagnosis was amazing. Meals on MAU were just fab with loads of options at all three sittings and plentiful portions for a growing lad like myself, ahem. Hot drinks regularly, thorough checks by the attendant nurse all the time, good procedures to confirm identity, well cleaned wards with friendly cleaning operatives, helpful porters who were chatty and caring and one pair who went above expectations to find me reading material. I am glad to be home but I have to say that it was a genuine pleasure to be admitted to the RUH and I would not hesitate recommending it to anyone. Your attitude across the whole staff body is totally first rate and a credit to you. Thank you for turning a distressing episode for me into a very pleasant couple of days being cared for in the best possible way.
