My mother's experience in A & E was good and also her treatment on ward 7.
I could definitely see an improvement compared to her last visits.
However I must say that I don't think it is appropriate for an elderly person (84) to be discharged from hospital late in the evening in pain although medically stable.
Please can this practice be looked at.
I don't believe anyone over the age of 70 should be discharged in the evening especially if they live alone as my mother does.
The reason given was that it reduces the chance of getting an infection...but surely one more night of rest with a discharge early the next morning would be better for everybody...including the patients families who may have to travel a long way plus make lots of last minute arrangements - we were exhausted but no one seems to care about relatives here.
She left the hospital with us late in the evening in a lot of pain and then had to be left alone until we could get to her again the following morning.
An early morning discharge would have been so much better and less stressful for everyone and being consulted would have been good too.
Please can this be considered for patients in the future.
Thank you
