What I liked

Staff were friendly (with one exception - but you get that everywhere in life), and whenever I've used this hospital, waiting time has been *absolutely minimal* - I've even got in early at x-ray once. -Not many hospitals can say that! I think it's a brilliant facility and It is a shame they are going to shut most of it down I understand. Instead we'll get a large impersonal set up no doubt. This hospital is convenient for a lot of people and a real asset to our community. I've had excellent treatment there ove rthe years.

Thank you for your positive comments about the way the staff at Morpeth treated you and we’re really pleased that you were seen really quickly.

The new Morpeth NHS Centre wont be a large impersonal facility – all the current benefits of the services at Morpeth will continue but in a new modern environment. The new facility will offer benefits of GP services in the same building as hospital services but the centre will retain the personal approaches that it currently has.

Northumberland Care Trust has worked in partnership with Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust which operates Morpeth Cottage Hospital, and following an extensive public consultation exercise during 2007 has agreed an £18m Primary Care Centre facility to serve thousands of people. This facility is is due for completion in the summer of 2011.

The new facility will re-provide a range of services, some which are currently based at Morpeth Cottage Hospital.

It will provide new modern premises for Morpeth’s Greystoke and Gas House Lane GP Surgeries, the latter has been established within the Cottage Hospital following the devastating floods. Other facilities will Include diagnostics such as X-Ray, ultra-sound, MRI scans and other tests – reducing the need to go to hospital.

Other services will include a 12-day renal dialysis unit, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Dental Services, Pharmacy, Speech and language therapy as well as a range of treatment rooms.
