"Waiting on an endoscopy for 50 weeks as Western General Hospital let me down."

About: Western General Hospital (Edinburgh)

(as the patient),

I was referred to the Western General Hospital Lothian last year for an endoscopy.

In September I spoke to my doctors surgery as it was 10 months & I was told I was fast approaching the waiting limit and would be seen soon.

My surgery were great and followed it up with the Western - I couldn't believe what they told them - that they'd offered me an appointment in September and that I'd turned it down!

This was totally false so I called them as my symptoms were getting worse they offered to put me on a 'cancellation list '.

Still nothing happened so I went back to my GP she told me the hospital assured her that I'd get a letter 'soon ' add at that point the waiting list was around 40 weeks.

In October my GP told me the wait was even longer than that.

Early November I called the western general who told me I wasn't on their list!

At my surgery today, the doctor told me that there had been a ' mix up' at the hospital and I had been referred for another endoscopy.

I've now been waiting a whole year on my endoscopy, the Western General seem to have lost my referral and I find myself back at square one with absolutely no idea when I will ever get seen. I've had no explanation or apology. The hospital have not been able to answer my questions and I'm at my wits end. There is no way I will be seen within the waiting times for this procedure.

Meanwhile I'm still on medication for something that they  haven't investigated.
