"life changing care at King's Mill"

About: King's Mill Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a relative),

I attended ED with my mother recently and a follow-up appointment on ward 53.

Emergency Department:

I would like to thank the ED Nursing staff for the compassion, care and attention they demonstrated towards my mother during her ED attendance. Their influence upon the medical assessment process ensured that she received the appropriate follow up care, which resulted in a her receiving an accurate diagnosis and required change in treatment. I would like to extend sincere gratitude to all the staff on duty, who were very helpful but, in particular I would like to thank:

Terri for her professionalism, understanding, and delivery of patient education at a level my mother was able to understand. Her kindness and patience when communicating with my mother, has resulted in her becoming concordant with her medication routine after years of medication negligence and self-prescribing (of personally procured potassium! ! ).

and

Mark for his professional, engaging rapport when interacting with my mother. His reassuring manner resulted in him being able to gain her trust and confidence, resulting in a much less traumatic extraction of blood than usual! The only problem arising from this is that she is disappointed she can't go to ED for routine bloods! !

The ED department environment was well organised, calm and clean, despite the pressure all staff are under.

Ward 53 TIA Clinic:

I would also like to thank Jo from ward 53 TIA clinic for her calm, professional and respectful manner. Again her phlebotomy skills were excellent, which for a patient who usually experiences pain and bruising from persistent failure is very reassuring and much less traumatic. Jo informed my mother throughout each step of her appointment, which ensured she understood exactly what was happening.

and

Dr. Al Dazzaz, whose thorough assessment of my mothers symptoms and investigations, led to new diagnoses and appropriate associated treatment. His articulate manner and outstanding patient communication has led to my mother becoming more informed of her impaired health status, this new understanding has alerted her to the profound importance of making wiser health related choices. After years of other health professionals attempting to engage my mother in health promotion, finally a positive step in the right direction.

Thank you Kings Mill for making a difference, it is the little things that impact the most! Most probably just another day at work for the professionals involved but life changing for my precious mother.
