I arrived at the Great Western Hospital, anxious and a bit frightened prior to hip replacement surgery and was immediately welcomed and escorted into the Theatre
Reception
Lounge where friendly, understanding staff ran me through the necessary procedures. I was told my position on the list and the approximate time I should be going down to Theatre, which helped me to settle down. My anaesthetist and Surgeon also came to see me and both were very reassuring and left me feeling very positive about my operation.
When I woke up after surgery in the peaceful surrounds of the recovery ward I was greeted by a smiling nurse, who gently made me comfortable and reassured me that everything had gone well.
I was then transferred to Aldbourne Ward where my bed was in a single sex, 4 bed section which I much appreciated.
Despite being extremely busy with all the beds full, all the staff were extremely patient and understanding of my needs and I very quickly relaxed. During my four day stay, everyone had a caring, reassuring and cheerful attitude.
They all worked very hard as a team to meet the needs and comfort of all the patients, including the cleaning and catering teams who always had a friendly smile when they came round.
My overall experience of the Great Western Hospital both pre and post op has been excellent and
I highly recommend this hospital.
