What I liked

How quickly I was treated and how seriously my condition was taken. Was referred to Early Pregnancy Unit from GP for possible miscarriage, had 3 appointments over a week (to monitor pregnancy hormones to see if viable pregnancy). Ectopic pregnancy was diagnosed thanks to EPU nurses' quick thinking and diligence. Was operated on within a couple if hours. Everything was explained to me, and I was asked frequently if I was happy with the decision to operate and if I had any questions. Operated on by a theatre full of staff (not that I saw most of them as I was out to sleep) using keyhole surgery. Then wheeled to clean ward with friendly nurses who took care of me very well. Discharged the next day. All brilliant, even the food was nice!

What could be improved

The ward was too noisy for my recovery. There are TVs on every bed, and strangely the patients are given a choice as to whether or not to use the headphones. One patient had the radio blaring out at 10pm when I wanted to sleep. I spoke to the nurse who sorted this, but I don't think patients should be allowed to listen to the TV/radio unless through headphones. It is very distracting, Most people want peace when recovering from surgery.

Also, patients (all except me it seemed) regularly used their phones so I could hear lots of loud shouty conversations, or ridiculously loud ringtones.

According to the patient's handbook, people are not allowed mobiles! I think large signs around the wards should solve this problem as well as gentle reminders by passing nurses.
