"Problems over discharge procedure at Royal Hallamshire Hospital"

About: Royal Hallamshire Hospital

(as the patient),

I was a patient at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital for the removal of my Gall Bladder on ward J1. On arrival the reception staff were pleasant and helpful. The anesthetist was patient, caring and professional.

The way in which my discharge was handled left me feeling anxious and upset. I had been told on 4.08.07 that a doctor would see me before I was allowed home as my blood pressure was low. No doctor came on 4.08.07 and I was told a doctor would see me the following day. On 5.08.07 I was given a bag of medication and told to go home. I advised the staff that I had not yet seen a doctor and they replied that it was not now necessary. She then advised me to leave my dressing on the wound until it dropped off and all would then be O.K. I insisted that I was not leaving until I had seen a doctor and that I was not happy about this situation. The doctor then came to see me and when he looked at my dressings, he changed them and advised me that I needed to see my G.P. the following week for the wounds to be checked. I found this whole experience a little disconcerting to say the least.

Other than this I have nothing but praise for the staff and the care that i was given.
