"hygiene concerns at rotherham"

About: Rotherham Hospital

(as the patient),

i was a emergency admission to Rotherham District General hospital. i was there a week though i am grateful of the care, i am concerned about the poor hygiene levels as regards cleaning toilets and patient tables bedside cabinets. i noticed that after about 6pm there is no cleaner to clean the toilets so the cleaning of toilet floors taps seats is left to the nursing staff. on a few occasions i was unable to use the toilet facilities because used bedpans had been left in a toilet for hours. other toilets were soiled with bodily fluids that made me very wary of even stepping onto the floor near them. bedside tables, trolleys, above bed ledgers i noticed were wiped with one cloth wipe each morning.

Thank you for posting your comments regarding the hygiene regime at the Trust.

We are currently reviewing the whole toileting & hygiene facilities offered to patients with a number of staff from the wards working on this and hope to see some major improvements really quickly. If any patient has a problem whilst on the wards the staff should be made aware of this at the earliest opportunity in order for it to be resolved.

Thank you again for raising your comments will be taken forward and acted upon.
