"Left behind by Patient Transport"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Patient Transport Service University Hospital Wishaw / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I am an Amputee and need Ambulance Transport to get to Wishaw General Hospital for my Physio which is only a hour twice a week and I am always late getting there with the ambulance. I need a 2 man Crew to help me out the House and I got two staff one day and they came in and said we can't lift you we need 4 man crew to lift you so they Radio through and the Controller said that by the time they come to help you I will be late, so the Ambulance just drove away. No one came in to me to tell me what was going on so I was left and didn't get for my Physio that day. I was really Angry and so were the staff at Physio. I have great people looking after me in the Physio Department at Wishaw General Hospital. Nicola, Angie, Naz, Anne, all the staff are great, its just the Ambulance Transport Side of it that lets me down. If I don't complain it will never get fixed so I will leave it with you and Hopefully it will get sorted out thank you.

Dear Leftbehind,

I am very sorry to hear that you had such trouble with your patient transport, especially that the crew left you behind. It must have been very frustrating and I can assure that this is not what is expected of our staff - they should at the very least explained what is happening to you.

I'd welcome the opportunity to find out what is going on and I'd also like to speak to the staff concerned to find out what happened when you were left.

May I please ask you to contact me on 0141 810 6101 or scotamb.accadmin@nhs.net? I will be also be able to look at how we can ensure that you get the best possible service for your future appointments.

Pat

Dear Leftbehind

Thank you so much for taking the time to post your comments. I am very sorry to hear of the issues you have had with your transport in attending the amputee class here at Wishaw General and hope that following this post things will improve. I am delighted that you value the physiotherapy team and the excellent service they provide here for all of our amputee patients. I will ensure your comments are passed onto the named individuals.

Thanks again
