During my stay in Ryeworth ward it seemed to me that copious form filling got in the way of effective communication between different parties concerned with the health of any particular individual. As for patient involvement, assurances may allay anxieties but some detail about what has been done in surgery and what can be expected to be experienced in the coming days as a result would be more effective. Sadly, the much appreciated attentiveness of nursing staff was not sufficient to counter negative emotions about the procedure chosen. It should not be necessary to have to find the necessary information from the internet after leaving the hospital. One must therefore doubt the effectiveness and purpose of any 'follow up' appointment.
