"Shocking care!"

About: Burnley General Hospital / Maternity care

I went in to be induced on the 28th of December on my due date as my baby boy didn't decide to come before then. I wasn't allowed to go past my due date as I had gestational diabetes. The first midwife that saw me was extremely nice and explained all procedures properly and allowed me time to get comfortable for induction procedure as I get really nervous with internal examinations. During my stay there, at early am, one of the midwives came to check me and my waters must have started going as I could feel it trickling down. I told the midwife about this and they advised they would have to do a swab to get this checked which I agreed. To my surprise the midwife asked me if my phone has a flashlight and to hold it up so they could do the examination. I wasn't feeling comfortable so the midwife allowed me to do the swab myself. I was shocked to hear the midwife ask me to hold a flashlight up as this was unprofessional. I started feeling stinging pain everytime I went for a wee, I don't know whether I poked myself whilst trying to do the swab myself. The nurse got back to me and said my swab was negative so my waters hadn't gone, I asked what it could be possibly then, they said they didnt' know. Then early morning on the 29th, I started feeling stronger pains. The consultant had come in with the midwife to check everything and i advised that I get quite nervous with internal examinations so they had given me gas and air. I asked the consutlant to allow me to get comfortable so they could do the procedure. However to my surprise, just because I had put the gas and air in my mouth, the consultant had presumed that I was ready and proceeded really fast. I ended up in pain and screamed. My waters had gone completely at this point. The midwife said you've wet yourself all over with your waters, you don't scream like that you're scaring other women here. I kept apologising. My husband was appalled to see that the midwife even went over to the next lady they were examining and started talking about me screaming. I was happy to move onto the labour ward where all staff were wonderful, I ended up having an emergency c-section as my little boy's heartbeats started dropping. To top it up when i was transferred to post natal ward, I was very unhappy and upset with the care i received. Even though i watned to breastfeed i was struggling with that as I couldn't sit up properly with the c-section and to make it worse midwives were questioning me why I decided to bottle feed. Well, if your child can't breastfeed, you have to give it something, can't starve it and have it lose weight only then to be put onto intensive care and have formula! I just wanted to go home as staff wasn't very helpful. I struggled with getting up and about and i was told i can handle the baby myself. Also, a midwife didnt' even discharge me when they said they were filling out my paperwork for discharge, they left me waiting only for me to find out from another that the midwife hasn't done anything. To be honest, I felt horrible. This is shocking
