"Having had my autistic son admitted here..."

My son was admitted to this establishment last weekend there was no empathy compassion or demonstrated by the staff the communication from staff to parents was absolutely disappointing and there was a catalogue of clinical failings I would seriously urge parents to request to see all documentation of the interventions and care given and insist on all involvement in your child's care.I hope no child or parent has to endure my past experiences with this unit.

Thank you for this feedback; we’re looking into what happened so that we can pay better attention to the experiences of young people and families. Our approach is to involve parents in their young person’s care – as this doesn’t seem to have been robust enough over a weekend, we’ll review how this approach can be better embedded from the very start of an admission. We’ve already started to use the lived experiences of parents and carers to re-design our inpatient care pathway to involve them more, and will include this important feedback about the first few days of an admission as we continue with this work.
