"admission for tests and subsequent surgery"

About: Manchester Royal Infirmary / Accident and emergency

I was admitted to MRI on 26.9.16, after passing out.whilst attending an outpatient appt. with my wife.I was assessed in various departments before being admitted to Ward 9. I was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis, and needed my gall bladder removed. The care and attention I received was very good on the whole, and I felt I was treated with dignity and respect, and that my views were listened to. There were some excellent and very caring staff, but equally there also appeared to be some difficulties with staff consistency, e.g temp / agency staff, and attendant problems in ensuring everyone was clear about care plans and treatment pathways.

Thank you for your comments posted on the NHS Choices website regarding your care at the Manchester Royal Infirmary and on Ward 9 in particular.

It was very kind of you to write and compliment the staff as it is good to receive positive feedback which reflects their hard work and dedication..

We were however sorry to read that you noticed some communication issues with regards to the plan of care and treatment options. It is sometimes the case that wards need to use temporary and agency staff, however even when this is the case we would always expect that patients are kept as informed as possible as to their plan of care as we understand how distressing it can be when this is unclear.

I can assure you that we have passed on your thoughts onto the Ward and the staff involved. We take all issues surrounding patient care very seriously and would like to hear from you directly about this if you have any further queries. If you contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 0161 276 8686 or via e-mail at pals@cmft.nhs.uk they will be happy to discuss this with you.
