My father stayed on Rowan ward for observation and tests. During his stay I had to chase the nurse who cared for him as fluids/IV machine kept beeping- they kept silencing it saying someone else would attend to it; This happened over an hour until a different nurse finally said it was not even running (this was part of his treatment after seen at A&E! ) and finally connected it. They hurt dad when they connected ECG electrodes laughing 'you have too much hair'; Dad complained for an hour his ear was hurting after they took a sample for a test (no doubt they did not do it 'gently') ; They sent me looking for the Drs in their rest room when I asked to see a Dr to understand what is the plan for dad, and I have been asking and waiting for hours to talk to a Dr; Another staff member told me when I was lost looking for the Drs room the nurse should call them for me not send me to look for a Dr. Finally when dad started having difficulty breathing and the oxygen that was very helpful for several hours was not helping him breath , I kept calling the nurse, took them a while to come over, saying he needs to put back on his oxygen mask, and going back to reception, but dad said I can't breath with it - which wasn't the case until then- (the oxygen mask did not help as the oxygen did not reach his lungs at this stage and he finally lost consciousness and had a cardiac arrest). I had to beg the nurse to do something when they were still standing at the reception not staying by dad's bed at these crucial moments. At least they called a DR by then-thank you for at least doing that. Their overall attitude was 'I do not give a damn', no compassion or a caring attitude, but a sense of cruelness when dad was scared and had possibly a 2nd heart attack on the ward; I will complain further also to HCPC- but please do not trust this hospital with your dear ones; do not leave them alone; horrible experience , very low standards of care on Rowan ward.
