I went to the walk in centre and got sent to the Royal Oldham Hospital to query some suspected heart related issues. All throughout the staff approach and attitude was exemplary. However, I am really dismayed to write that nothing has changed in the 20 years of waiting times with my experience with a & e. I've probably attended about 10 times in total with most of them being with other family members.
I saw 8 paramedics were waiting around in adult major for about 1/2 an hour until the first in the queue was attended to. Cubicles were full. Some patients including myself were re-directed to waiting rooms. My ECG did not happen for 3 hours. (seriously - this sort of check could have happened at walk in).
There must be some resolution to resolving weekend rush, I think it is absolutely unacceptable. Paramedics should be allowed to be more tech savvy by synching reports to a & e systems. Are we really making the most of our resources?
I think someone at decision making level needs to come and shadow their staff and take up proper responsibility for the services provided.
Most of all, the pressure is immense on staff and waiting around probably makes people more ill.
"Can the waiting times not be improved?"
