"The hospital is clean. The staff ..."

About: Royal Blackburn Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

The hospital is clean. The staff are helpful and knowledgable. The hospital is easy to visit and pleasant to be in.

What could be improved

All the staff are under too much pressure. They have too much to do and are as a consequence unable to provide the care that the patients deserve. My wife was in the hospital for 4 days and could not sleep due to the metal bars propping her up in her bed. She requested each bed as they became available and was refused. She requested another pillow to cushion the metal bars and was told there wasn't any. My wife was released after 4 days treatment for pneumonia against my wishes and was then re-admitted the day after by ambulance after her condition deteriorated. The pressure on doctors and nurses to release beds at the earliest moment has caused my wife and I considerable suffering and she is still being treated as I type this. My feelings at this time are that the hospital has good doctors and nurses that are not being allowed to perform at their best due to a lack of resources (Beds and pillows to name but two).

Anything else?

People smoking on the hospital grounds is annoying to non-smokers but to have to wade through people smoking directly outside the A & E treatment room is particularly offensive. Please stop this practice.
