"MEAU SHORT STAY care shockingly poor"

If you have an elderly relative admitted to this unit do not leave them. Whilst the consultant visiting the ward and briefing the family was efficient, the day to day care on this ward let a very poorly lady and her family down. staff of different levels were not briefed,which was clear by their comments. It was clear to the immediate family that the patients condition and breathing was deteriorating during her last 7 hours of life. Family asked for help, and the patient who's was lucid said she was desperately unhappy. Staff were approached for assistance and re evaluation but it was as if they were functioning in a daze of routine checks and not responding to the situation. The patient did not die peacefully but in great distress. the admission was via ambulance through A&E then MEAU then MEAU short stay.End of life care was not there.Please review your procedures and do not let this happen to another patient and their family.
