Firstly as a registered health professional I am appalled at what i and my loved one has experienced on the wards of this unit. Some staff are brilliant but others show patients no empathy or dignity. I heard staff talking to patients like children, shouting at them when all they wanted was something to eat. Every time I called to ask how my loved one was getting on, I was told on every occasion " I don't know".. that statement also came from the nurse in charge!
The nurse in charge is supposed to know what is going on on their ward. I even on one occasion had the nurse in charge shout at me over the phone, only for them to have to apologise to me when they realised they had accused my loved one of leaving the ward when in fact they were there. The staff do not acknowledge parents when they go to the nurses station, I had to interrupt them on one occasion to say I was a parent. They show no professionalism and are a let down to the nursing profession. I would never say to a parent calling inquiring about their loved one that I didn't know about their care and leave it at that... I expected then to say they would find the nurse looking after them to speak to me. I will contacting PALS.
