The staff and therapist are great, but in true NHS style this unit is grossly understaffed. I believe this has impacted on my partners recovery as they cannot offer therapy to the standards suggest in the NICE report, Specialised Neuro rehabilitation Service Standards and British Standards for Rehabilitation services. They don't have a full time speech therapist and should have at least 2. They only have 1 OT therapist and should have 4. My partner is young and needs intensive therapy to be able to live independently. Unfortunately he will probably be a longer drain on the NHS due to not being given therapy in accordance with guidelines. He has been in this unit nearly 10 months. They want to discharge him, he isn't capable of independant living and i work full time with a mortgage to pay.
