On 29th September I was referred by my consultant at the treatment centre for an urgent appointment with the dietician to address excessive weight loss due to my illness. I have seen a copy of the letter sent to my GP from my consultant showing this was requested on 29th September - the letter to the dietician was typed up on 5th October - 6 days after the request.
I asked the MDT specialist nurse and they said they would chase this up. This Tuesday I still haven't heard so rang the treatment centre. I left a message, then tried another number and someone helpfully checked the system and said nothing is booked yet, but the request paperwork is with the dietician who isn't in again until Thursday (today) and they would make sure my case was seen. Shortly after I received a call responding to the message I left to say they had checked and put my case straight through to bookings. Both these people were very polite and helpful. My complaint is that the system is obviously not working efficiently - an urgent referral by the consultant and 2 weeks later I haven't even got an appointment date yet. As this concerns possible malnutrition from malabsorption, every day counts, and it all adds to the worry of serious illness.
"Urgent referral taking too long"
